Why measure pH?
Monitoring the pH of your soil and balancing soil acidity are key to improving crop performance, as low soil pH will reduce crop growth and ultimately yield.
Applying Calcifert granulated lime provides a quick and easy way
to effectively balance soil pH, improving quality and yield.
Correcting acid levels with appropriate Calcifert application
will bring measurable improvements in yields. Calcifert is equally
effective on all crops including fruit, rape and hops. Calcifert
improves grassland by encouraging root development and improving
grass growth.
No matter what you are growing it will be improved from the
application of Calcifert to combat the harmful effects of acid
levels in the soil. Acidity builds up over time from rainfall
leaching, the demands of growing crops, decomposition and nitrogen
release - these all serve to lower pH and restrict growth.
Acidic soil pH (below pH 5.5) can have a significant impact on
grass growth and response to nutrients, resulting in reduced yield
and wasted fertiliser application. As an optimum, soil for arable
crops should be maintained at pH 7, and at pH 6.5 for grassland.
Organic and peaty soils should be maintained at pH 6.5 and pH 6
respectively.
